Hayes Family Wines - Barossa in Autumn

Stone Well in Autumn from Stone Well Road

Autumn in the Barossa Valley

With Vintage now behind us, the vines across the valley are steadily winding down, the leaves are turning, the leaves are enjoying the last rays of sunshine and will soon close down for winter.

Over Winter, with the leaves gone, we will prune, and hopefully, the vines will wake up in spring, with a haircut, with hopefully a good supply of ground moisture and ready for another year ahead. A simple life, but a very good one with the right conditions.

The Months Ahead

For Andrew, Mandy and I, we have a busy few months ahead. For Andrew, we will bottle the 2021 Rose, and each and every barrel will be brought out from the cellar, checked, toped, and placed back in the stack.

Mandy will start pruning our vineyard in July and should be finished by mid August with good weather. It is perhaps the most important time of the year for the vineyard and the 2022 crop. Mandy is a great asset for us, and this will be her 3rd vintage pruning our vineyard.

For me, I will be on the road for dinners and tastings across NSW and Victoria, with other cities to be confirmed.

Much to be done before we see budburst in Spring.
