Cabernet Sauvignon is the worlds most planted red variety, which it is good, it is an amazing grape variety that produces wonderful wines of balance, length of flavour and capacity to age and genuinely improve in the cellar. Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, can be exceptional, particularly in the cool years, but can lose that cabernet character in the warm years.

At Hayes Family Wines we pride ourselves on the vineyards we own and those that are owned by our growers. We have made some wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon, notably in the cool years, 2021, 2022, and 2023. These wines were made up to and including the 2023 vintage but have been discontinued since. There is no more Hayes Family Wines Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon being made with this blue strip denoting the Barossa Valley blend of vineyards.

These Wines are excellent. With us no longer actively selling these wines, it is time for us to move on. We are offering the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Vintages of the Barossa Cabernet, in dozen lots, free freight anywhere in Australia for $280 per dozen. Member discounts still apply. These are drinking beautifully now and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Shiraz remains the king of the Barossa Valley. There is almost 10,000 ha of Shiraz vineyards, but we can assure you that not all growers nor vineyards are the same. Different soil, aspects, clones and of course the grower themselves all make a difference.

Grenache is incredibly versatile. It can be enjoyed on its own, chilled a little on a warm day, or drunk with almost any choice of food. It is medium weight with bright fruit but carries very fine tannin. Match with anything or consume on its own.

The Hoffmann’s of Ebenezer are widely recognised as perhaps the best growers of premium Barossa Fruit. With Adrian at the helm, they have gone from strength to strength.

Adrian is one of our biggest growers and in 2023 we once again processed fruit from the Mickan, Dallwitz and Koonunga Block Vineyards.

Some years ago, Adrian took cuttings, or mass selections of the best vines in three premium barossa blocks, the Becker Koonunga Ancestor Block, Dallwitz (the home block for the Hoffmann’s) and the SCC vineyard in Flaxman Valley. In 2023 they were all very different nd we took the decision to bottle a barrel of the blend, and one of each of the 3 individual blocks.

Our Hoffmann DV Shiraz comes from the Dallwitz Ancestor Block in Ebenezer. Heartland Hoffmann fruit.

The Koonunga Shiraz, also from the Hoffmann empire comes from an Ancestor Block in Koonunga in the Barossa's North.
