Hayes Family Wines is a small family-owned wine producer that brings together traditional values, great vineyards and a passion for Barossa Valley wines. From our old vineyards in Stone Well and the Barossa’s Northern reaches of Ebenezer and Koonunga we look to fashion wines that convey the unique attributes of our special sites from the traditional Barossa varieties of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Semillon.
Our vineyards span the western and northern reaches of the Barossa Valley. We do a lot of work by hand, we work hard so we need to add less. Our Estate vineyards are farmed with minimal intervention, we operate organically and are currently in conversion to organic – so no tillage, no fertiliser, no pesticides, no insecticides and especially no herbicides. Our vineyard blocks are typically dry grown with some blocks supported by drip irrigation. All blocks are hand pruned, hand picked and managed with extreme care and attention to detail.
We are a true boutique producer. We seek the best possible fruit, fruit that has a balance of acid, tannin and potential alcohol and we seek to showcase the fruit flavour and structure of the traditional Barossa Valley varietals of Shiraz, Mataro, Grenache and Semillon. Our winemaking takes a low intervention approach with minimal additions utilising old world techniques whilst not ignoring the learnings of the modern world. We are committed to producing the best wines that the season allows from some of the best possible terroirs the region has to offer.
