Our 1st batch of Rick’s Rare Tawny comes from some truly special and unique stocks of ancient tawny that has been in the Burge Family stocks for close to 100 years. Rick is one of the true gentlemen of wine, a wonderful man with a wonderful pallet. He is a great supporter of ours, and has helped us more than most over the years. Is blending skills are legendary. He has over the past 20 years steadily moved his vast stocks on to the next generation.
He did however retain a small batch, a batch that was truly special. Recently he asked me whether I was interested. The answer was of course yes. This blend, a reflection of the legend that is Rick Burge brings together ancient components from the last of his family stocks, a truly unique Barossa Tawny that each of us should try at least once. This batch is tiny but comprises some of the very best fortified barrels I have seen.

NV Very Old ‘Rare’ Rick’s Blend Batch 1
TASTING NOTE
Drinking just beautifully on release. This Tawny has very focused fruit flavours, apricots, caramel, some rancio characters, finishing with excellent length and crisp acidity. The sheer age of the components is on show. The colour just magic. Medium weight, it is rich and fleshy. This wine is a truly unique and wonderful wine to savour.

96 Points - Mahogany-amber in the glass. Opulent aromas of toffee, dark chocolate, raisin, rancio, roast nuts and sweet spice. There's layers of old, aged material here, the flavours coat the tongue and have impressive length and presence. The alcohol and acidity work seamlessly with the ancient fruit and deliver a very complete wine. 16 Feb 2025
