2027 Halliday Wine Companion
The results are in!
At Hayes Family Wines, we are once again excited to announce our results published in the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion. This year, all the Barossa Wines were once again tasted by Dave Brookes.
So to the Results. Hayes Family Wines was once again awarded a 5 Red Stars. We were awarded 5 Stars in the Halliday Wine Companion in our first year with our first set of wines. That’s now 10 years of 5 Star Ratings. It’s very exciting to have been recognised once again for the consistency across our range.
We continue to bottle our wines later than we did historically so our 2024 Shiraz’s were not ready for tasting for the book. We only submitted a handful of wines, all of which received a silver medal or better. Notwithstanding that, it was great to see that those that we did submit scored consistently well across the range.
You can read the Wine Companion reviews for each of these wines and so many others by purchasing a copy of the book via the Wine Companion website.
2022 HILLSIDE SHIRAZ
Sourced from block 9 of the Stone Well estate, deep crimson and packed with ripe satsuma plums, boysenberry and black cherry fruit, hints of hanging meats, dried herbs, dark chocolate, brown spice, vanillin oak, olive tapenade and leather. Weighty with a powerful black fruit presence, cascading toothsome, sandy tannins and no lack of latent power as the wine extends on the finish.

2023 Primrose Merlot
Deep crimson with aromas of juicy damson plum, black cherry and blackberry fruits cut with hints of baking spices, licorice, cedar, light crushed herbs, violets, espresso, dark chocolate, clove and turned earth. Full bodied with sweetly plush, plummy fruits layered with spice and a light floral top note, along with fine, silty tannins and a vibrant acidity that pushes that rich fruit along very nicely indeed.
A rare beast, delayed for release to co-inside with the other 2023 Family Selection. This wine is available by contacting either myself or Steve.

A comment on Winery Ratings and Scores
Wine Writers, Wine Shows and both domestic and international publications are an important part of our industry. But like you and I, tastes vary not just between individuals, but on different days for the same reviewer. Wines also develop and change over time.
We are confident that our wines look better after 12 months in bottle, typically when we look to release them. Wines destined for the Halliday Companion are tasted in December for publication in August. Many of our 2024 Shiraz based wines were not bottled in time for submission. All of our grenache and mataro based wines from 2025 were also not bottled at this stage.
This impacts the wines that are available for submission. This should be rectified with future guides and our move to slightly later release dates.
Hayes Family Wines is once again very excited to announce our fantastic results as published in the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion. Each years results are eagerly awaited by both the wine industry and consumers alike. Hayes Family Wines once again received 5 Red Stars reflecting our very consistent ratings for our submitted wines.
