Hayes Family Wines - Vintage 2021 Diary - Week 1 - First Grapes

First Grapes of the 2021 Vintage - Fromm Centurion Semillon

First Grapes of the 2021 Vintage - Fromm Centurion Semillon

Week 1

As is customary, vintage 2021 has commenced with Semillon, first from the Fromm’s in Williamstown in the Barossa’s south on Monday, followed by the Schulz Semillon on Wednesday and the Primrose Chardonnay on Friday. A nice relaxed way to start. The grapes look excellent, nice ripeness at mild baume’s, 2021 could be a great vintage for winemakers and growers alike. High quality, good yields. Lets hope a sign of things to come for the reds.

The Week ahead

This week we will see the winery at Mattiske Road begin to ramp up, we are expecting Fromm Grenache and Mataro for Rose on Monday, and perhaps some Williamstown Shiraz on Friday. We can expect Shiraz to start rolling in as all our vineyards start to approach ripeness. The Northern and Western Vineyards are still a few weeks away. We expect that we will begin picking the Estate Vineyard Shiraz in early March.

Exciting times ahead!
