Wine Show Success - 2022 Marananga Wine Show

Australian Wine Show Circuit

Wine Shows are conducted in most Australian Wine Regions. These shows have over the years played a significant role in the improvement of the style. Wining a trophy at a major wine show requires a very good wine, no doubt and a lot of luck. Shiraz classes can be in the 100s, so standing out, is a challenge but it is lovely to win or be recognised with a medal in these shows.

Andrew has judged at many wine shows, and myself just a few, but it is a great experience and I personally gained a lot from it.

Local Barossa Wine Shows

Annually the Barossa Wine Show is held, typically mid September. With over 800 entries covering all the styles, it is a big event and the Wine Show dinner is a great night out. The public tasting is held on the Friday after the show, and that is a lot of fun too.

The second show, the only sub-regional show in Australia, is the Marananga Wine Show. Held late August, it is limited to just 120 entries made from grapes grown on the Western Ridge, that is, Stone Well, Marananga, Seppeltsfield, Greenock and Moppa. These are some of the great districts of the Barossa, particularly for Shiraz.

Hayes Family Wines enters both these shows, our Estate Releases entered in the Marananga Wine Show and typically a few of our Regional Wines in the Barossa Wine Show. Sometimes we do well, sometimes we do not, sometimes we agree, sometimes we do not. But the experience is always a positive one.

Marananga Wine Show 2022

This year we entered 4 wines in the 2022 Marananga Wine Show, all 4 received medals.

The 2020 Estate Shiraz Block 1 was awarded a trophy for Western Ridge Classic Style. This was a great result for all involved, with Andrew, myself and Mandy there to collect the award. For those with some in the cellar, congratulations, there are 2 or 3 six packs left if you are quick.
