Art and Wine

Technique, attention to detail and science all play a part in making good wine. Great wine requires that something special, whether it be a deft hand in the vineyard or creativity in the winery. Like wine, people are often heard to say “I can paint that” or “I could make that” but deep down, we know we cannot. Creating art takes skill, great skill, but also requires imagination and creativity that separates the artists of this world from the want-to-be artists.

The association between art and wine has a long history. Many a gallery have occupied winery space, many a wine tasting has been held in a gallery. Some great wines of the world, Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux, Leeuwin Estate from Margaret River have chosen to adorn their wines with some of the world’s great art.

And we at Hayes Family Wines also appreciate the similarities between art and wine. But rather than adorning our labels with the masters, we have chosen to support local artists by showcasing their art in our cellar door, selling it with 100% of the sales going to the artist, and purchasing our favourite piece for the next vintage Rouge and Blanc labels.
