The Schulz’s have been growing grapes in Ebenezer for more than 150 years. Primrose is their family home, and also a wonderful vineyard. Planted to Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay, it is a diverse block with diverse soils. Our Sections are now Certified Organic and Certified Sustainable. The Chardonnay block is much smaller than it once was, but we are so very lucky to have the remaining 8 rows, or half an acre. It claims its own piece of Barossa History.

The Fromm’s have been growing grapes in Williamstown for more than 100 years. At the helm is 3rd generation Ryan Fromm and his wife Sally. Salt of the earth people that grow truly special grapes. They have some very old blocks, many more than 100 years old. The Fromm grapes feature across our range, we are proud to count them as friends.

The Schulz’s have been growing grapes in Ebenezer for more than 150 years. At the helm is 4th generation members Marcus Schulz and his wife Roslyn. Their home block has been the source of great grapes for generations, Grange, RWT, Runrig and many others. The key blocks being Block 14, 15 and 16, legendary Shiraz. Block 15 is the source of some our very best wines, and we are very proud to receive this wonderful fruit.

The Christmas Season is synonymous with Sparkling Wines. And we make two, an Adelaide Hills Blanc de Noirs and a sparkling shiraz. Each year, we release a small disgorgement of our Sparkling Shiraz based on 2004 and 2005 Estate Shiraz. A wine that is not to be missed

Our Blanc and Rouge labels allow us the opportunity to do something a little different, often with our ceramic eggs, featuring a local artist and made without too many boundaries. These wines often beautifully with a range of foods, in the case of the 2021 Rouge, perfect with Indian, South Asian or middle eastern cuisine.

Our size gives us the opportunity to try things, both with new wines, new vineyards and of course vintages. We are always on the look-out for a special block that has been forgotten by the big boys, and one such block is the Prayer Garden Grenache Vineyard in Ebenezer. Single Varietal Wines are better, aren’t they? We are told so, and marketing in the new world of wine would suggest so, but blends have dominated much of the wine world for thousands of years. Seek them out starting with the Great Australian Blend - Cabernet Shiraz or the Great Barossa Blend - Grenache Shiraz Mataro.

A field blend is a wine made from grapes harvested and fermented together from a single block within a vineyard planted to multiple grape varieties. Simple, but if they are so special why are they so rare?

Special Tawny requires the right grapes, picked at the right time, with the right spirit, aged, blended. Often unappreciated but incredibly important, the role of the barrel. A critical ingredient in any great barrel aged fortified.

Our size gives us the opportunity to try things, both with new wines, new vineyards and of course vintages. Vermouth has always been something both Andrew and I enjoy, but for sipping, and of course the occasional cocktail. We had the base fruit, we had the wormwood, we had the spirit, all we needed was to try some different ingredients, and our first vermouth was born!

2021 has been a year for gifting it would seem. We have done many events, both virtual and in person, we have packed celebratory wine packs for both individuals and for corporates, we have developed numerous bespoke wines and associated packaging, and now with Christmas not far ahead, we and you have so much opportunity to give someone or some people something unique whether it be your own selection of wines, a preferred wine of yours, a special note or gift. Most wine lovers have dreamt of an old European cellar filled with wine treasures, but should you cellar, do you enjoy aged or cellared wines? What do I cellar?

Deposits in wine, whether they be sediment, white diamonds or a hint of cloudiness, can be off-putting, but in most cases are not dangerous, but take care and you should be fine

For as long as wine has been available in glass bottles it has been available in various sizes from the very small sample bottles through to 28L and even bigger. But does it matter? Does the wine taste different now or in the future when consumed from a different sized bottle?
