Fromms of Williamstown in the Southern Barossa Valley

Old Grenache - Sugarloaf - Pre Harvest Check

BAROSSA VINEYARDS

Williamstown

The Barossa Valley runs for approximately 30kms, North to South and about 10km East to West. Our vineyards span the full breadth of both the Barossa and Eden Valleys, with Koonunga in the very North and Williamstown bordering the Adelaide Hills to the South. The rainfall in the South is often twice what we see in Koonunga, and the temperatures are significantly lower often resulting in fresher, more red fruit driven flavours that often resemble the Adelaide Hills wines slightly further south.

Growers are few in Willamstown with more in Lyndoch to the North. But the Fromms are the most significant growers in these parts, as they have been for more than 100 years (and a mixed farm which remains to this day).

FROMM SQUARE HOME BLOCK

The Fromm’s vineyard on Fromm Square (it is customary to have a street and in this case, a square, named after the long standing families) sits slightly to the east, but adjoins Williamstown. Planted in 1919, it is the source of incredible Semillon, Grenache, Cabernet and Shiraz, all of which have been used in the Hayes Family Wines lineup over the years.

Old SHIRAZ

The 1919 Shiraz block of the Fromms is one of my favourite blocks. Very old shiraz that benefits from the cooler wetter end of the Valley, We will have some special individual block releases in future years that we truly love, and after a little rest in bottle before release, so will you.

Sugarloaf

Ryan and Sal’s house vineyard, planted in the 1960s, is home to the next generation of Fromms but also produces some very fine Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. We use the Grenache and Mataro for our Rose, and what wonderful fruit it is. The Grenache fruit also finds its way into the Fromm Grenache, Sam’s and the GSM.

the fromms grow wonderful grapes!

Keep your eye out for releases of the Fromm Shiraz, Rose, Sam’s and the GSM and of course the 1919 Block later in 2023.
