We have been sustainably farming our small vineyard in Stone Well for a number of years, and each year, we are surprised with the increase in life, insects, birds, and of course lizards.
Fortunately with handpicking, they are left alone to live another day but still make great viewing as we move up and down the rows
We were very excited to hear that Hayes Family Wines once again featured as one of The Real Review Top Wineries of Australia for 2026. Our Grenache based wines from 2024 doing particularly well.
Vintage 2026 certainly was a year to remember. 3rd year in a row of drought, extremely hot January, but a vintage saved by some rain in early March. Classic wines. So where does it sit? We have had a string of excellent vintages, but they are all different. 2026 reminds many of 1996, and for good reason. Time will tell how good it actually is but I for one have it at or near the top of the list.
Hayes Family Wines is once again very excited to announce our fantastic results as published in the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion. Each years results are eagerly awaited by both the wine industry and consumers alike. Hayes Family Wines once again received 5 Red Stars reflecting our very consistent ratings for our submitted wines.
Hayes Family Wines was fortunate to host Angus Hughson for a visit in July. Angus is responsible for Vinous in Australia, one the worlds most respected wine publications. He wrote up many of the Best Barossa wines including many of ours from the 2021 and 2022 vintages. He rated 2022 one of the greats, which I can absolutely concur.

Australia have traditionally led the way with label validation, but perhaps not transparency. But things are changing. Mandatory recycling wording, barcodes, and energy information will soon be mandated on Australian Wine Labels. This is good for honest operators and could be a turning point for others.
