Our Single Vineyard Primrose Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz from the exceptional 2022 vintage comes from a tiny vineyard grown high in the hills of famed Schulz Vineyard in the Ebenezer district of the northern Barossa. The Cabernet and Shiraz blocks sit side by side but rarely ripen together. They did in 2022 and we took the opportunity to co-ferment. Rare in the Barossa, but the resulting wines are always better integrated and less varietal then blended wines.

2022 PRIMROSE VINEYARD CABERNET and Shiraz
GROWING SEASON
The 2022 Barossa Valley vintage will be remembered as truly great year, albeit different to the 2021 season that proceeded it. Good spring rains meant that we entered the growing season with good soil moisture levels. A warm dry growing season followed, with balanced and healthy canopies producing an average crop of extremely high quality fruit. Certainly one of the best in the last decade, maybe longer. The good news is that flavours and colours (in reds) and overall quality is exceptional. A truly great Barossa vintage in the making.
TASTING NOTE
Our Single Vineyard Primrose Cabernet Sauvignon from the exceptional 2022 vintage comes from a patch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grown high in the hills of famed Schulz Vineyard in the Ebenezer district of the northern Barossa. The Cabernet block is adjacent to the Primrose Shiraz block. The soil in this section of the vineyard is rich ironstone over clay and white marl. The wine has all the hallmarks of a Northern Barossa fruit grown on ironstone soils in a cool vintage - bright purple red hue, powerful black and blue fruits, medium bodied, absolute purity of fruit with fine abundant natural tannins. This is not about the varietals, but the vineyard. This wine is well integrated and drinks beautifully now, but will cellar for a long time in the right conditions.
