The Schulz’s have been growing grapes in Ebenezer for more than 150 years. At the helm is 4th generation members Marcus Schulz and his wife Roslyn. Their home block has been the source of great grapes for generations, Grange, RWT, Runrig and many others. The key blocks being Block 14, 15 and 16, legendary Shiraz. Block 15 is the source of some our very best wines, and we are very proud to receive this wonderful fruit.

The 2022 Vineyard of the Year Awards Top 50 has just landed and we are very excited that our Estate Vineyard has once again got a spot. The awards were launched back in 2020 and we are proud to once again to be one of the featured vineyards. We have made the Top 50 each year. Winners will be announced in February

Community plays a big part in the Barossa Valley. It is one of the key things that makes the Barossa truly one of the great wine regions of the world. We as a small Barossa Winery benefit greatly from the Barossa, and that means at time we need to give back, both locally, interstate and globally. I would not have it any other way.

The Christmas Season is synonymous with Sparkling Wines. And we make two, an Adelaide Hills Blanc de Noirs and a sparkling shiraz. Each year, we release a small disgorgement of our Sparkling Shiraz based on 2004 and 2005 Estate Shiraz. A wine that is not to be missed

Our Blanc and Rouge labels allow us the opportunity to do something a little different, often with our ceramic eggs, featuring a local artist and made without too many boundaries. These wines often beautifully with a range of foods, in the case of the 2021 Rouge, perfect with Indian, South Asian or middle eastern cuisine.

Hayes Family Wines was very excited to once again be awarded 5 Red Stars in this years James Halliday Wine Companion. It is exciting to have the opportunity to show our highest scoring wines to so many.

Hayes Family Wines actively supports the two local wine shows, the Marananga Wine Show and the Barossa Wine show. Both are superbly run by an enthusiastic group of locals. It is great to participate each in the show, the awards dinners and the public tasting. Even better when you are successful!

Our size gives us the opportunity to try things, both with new wines, new vineyards and of course vintages. We are always on the look-out for a special block that has been forgotten by the big boys, and one such block is the Prayer Garden Grenache Vineyard in Ebenezer. Single Varietal Wines are better, aren’t they? We are told so, and marketing in the new world of wine would suggest so, but blends have dominated much of the wine world for thousands of years. Seek them out starting with the Great Australian Blend - Cabernet Shiraz or the Great Barossa Blend - Grenache Shiraz Mataro.

Hayes Family Wines Estate Vineyard and Winery are Certified Sustainable. But what does this mean? What are we doing to be sustainable and to improve our credentials in the vineyard and winery.

Vines as they age face various risks, some natural, some mand made, some accidental. We are very fortunate that our vineyard although now more than 70 years old has very few gaps, but when a vine does die what do we do, how do we restore productivity to the panel missing the vine or vines.

A field blend is a wine made from grapes harvested and fermented together from a single block within a vineyard planted to multiple grape varieties. Simple, but if they are so special why are they so rare?

The last two years, essentially spent with in the Australian borders has been wonderful, but it is time to get back on the road, dinners, events, here we come!

Special Tawny requires the right grapes, picked at the right time, with the right spirit, aged, blended. Often unappreciated but incredibly important, the role of the barrel. A critical ingredient in any great barrel aged fortified.
